Warrior of the Heart – All Music Review by Jonathan Widran

Therese is one of those eclectic singer/songwriters who matches her ethereal voice with global-minded soundscapes, ancient winds, soulful modern edges, and folk ideas. At times it’s hard to pick out each individual track in the sequence — the tracking seems designed for an overall flow — but a basic theme runs throughout. Through all these global influences, Therese seeks to convey her dream of peace and a world full of abundant compassion. The moody “Wohenge” gives a first taste of her gentle voice textured a bit like Enya’s over John Gagan’s winding bassline. “Have Mercy” opens with a spoken prayer in what sounds like a Native language over an hypnotic ambience; the main vocal is enhanced by a whisper that comes across like an echo of her soul. “Love Like a River” has an R&B/blues element and a basic call for people to come together despite their differences. “Wings of Faith” is a lush tune that sounds like what might happen if Enya and Amy Grant engaged in a collaboration. On “Truth Can’t Hide,” Therese sounds a bit like a globally conscious Carly Simon. She also is good at wordless chant vocals as on the soaring “Eagle Song.” The set concludes with a brief spiritual chant which connects the voices of two Native American-sounding singers.
